    Default Math for co op?

Anyone have a good resource they could share for a math co op class? I'm looking to do something for grades 2/3.

    THANKS!

My kids attended a group last year that did an origami math class for grades K-2. The teacher was well prepared and had all of the more complicated pieces pre-folded before class. The kids just had to reassemble the craft. They casually discussed (aka. learned about) angles, basic shapes, 3 dimensional shapes, volume, and lots and lots of fractions, all based on the little crafts that they were doing each week. They loved it and it was a very gentle way to learn.

I taught those grades in a series of homeschool math classes this past year. We did a lot of fun stuff--geometry (everything from living books to geoblocks to pattern blocks--a big variety of activities), measurement with marbles (a marble roll construction activity), money (we acted out a play based on a funny poem by Shel Silverstein), etc. I recorded all our classes on my blog for the kids and their parents if you want to take a peek.

Sounds fun! I hope you post what you do with your group. I'm always looking for fun new ways to teach math.

Julie, those look great! And because I'll probably want to keep the books I can keep my costs super low

It's really designed for working with groups of kids. We have had several Family Math co-op classes and both kids who took it LOVED IT.

My then 6yo took it and this past spring my 11 yo took the middle school version.

    Fun stuff. Enjoy it!
