Default Snowy Day in Southern California

I've been wanting to row The Snowy Day with my son since last year, but living in Southern California made it a hard book for him to relate to. We talked about going up to the mountains last year to see the snow but never made it, so I was determined to do so this year. We found a day the week before Christmas and I planned to row the book the next week, but then the weather turned really warm (in the 80's)! After waiting a couple weeks, I just decided to do it anyway (now that we had dropped into the cool 60's). I'm glad we'd had our snow experience, so the boys at least knew what was going on. And we had fun making our own snow by throwing some ice in the blender. They loved eating it for "dessert" after lunch! (It also made for a fun science project.) I posted pictures and more at http://histreasureseekers.wordpress....the-snowy-day/

Default A Snowy Day in the Sweltering Summer Heat!

Hi! I'm from the Philippines, and we NEVER get snow. Here's how we rowed The Snowy Day. We had a lot of fun and my daughter now always asks for "winter."

Loved that, Mariel! Lots of good ideas for those of us who never get snow on the ground :-)
