    Default Mp3 players...

(update to my question -- see no. 10)

...Amazing how I can introduce a thread on this topic and feel outdated, since it's not about ipads, iphones, smart phones, whatever the latest is!

But the simple fact is we aren't interested in pouring money into the latest. We live kind of simply and currently don't have a need for updated technology (though we both would love to own some of it -- it just needs to be down the road a bit).

However !!! I do some janitorial work where my husband works (I clean about three buildings) and short of dragging my daughter's CD player/radio thingy around, I get very bored and would love to listen to sermons, talks on home schooling, other inspirational speakers, etc. etc. and of course the occasional music. I would also love to link up to a couple of FM stations, if possible.

Can anyone on here recommend something along these lines that we could be looking for? (in the vague recesses of my mind I think I may have asked this before, but I don't recall the answers! Forgive me if this is a repeat!)

    Thanks!

Don't apologize for "just" wanting an mp3 -- that's all we have, too!

Look into Sansa, either the Clip or the Fuse.

Did you do a search on this board for mp3? There was a recent thread ...

We got our Clips two Christmases ago after asking here and seeing that many people liked them. We use them primarily for music, but I remember others saying that they also worked fine for sermons, etc.

I've also heard good things about Sansa MP3 players. I do not recommend getting one of the cheapest (~$20) MP3 players out there, as you do get what you pay for in my experience. We got a no-name one for my older DD a couple of years ago, and the sound quality was terrible and it stopped working after less than a year. I had a first-generation iPod Shuffle that I gave to the girls after getting an iPod touch, and that one still works great even though it's over 6 years old and my younger DD hasn't been particularly careful with it. (I also still use it as a flash drive on occasion.) Apple's refurbished ones are less expensive if you want to go that route.

Thank you, all! I did find a previous thread from December, and that was helpful also! My husband and I have a date tonight, so maybe.....? I'll let you know if I get one! : )

Well, we went to three places to look for a Sansa 'clip' and Best Buy was out and the others didn't stock them (Well, our Target is in flux right now and had moved the electronics department and they weren't out yet).

But after looking some more online, I see that the Sansa doesn't work well with downloading 'Audible' books? Also, someone said that the 'book' menu gets buried in the song menu, so you have to do a lot of button work to get to a book?

NOt that I would put a lot of books on there, but I did want the option.

Anyone have experience with this on this or any other MP3?

(We are trying to keep it under 50 dollars, so an ipod isn't an option right now, and I wasn't as interested in the 'shuffle' I don't think. See? I'm clueless! )

    THanks!

I have a Sony Walkman that works great. I got it for $39.99 at one of those overstock websites but I cannot remember the name. I also got one for my son on Amazon. It is the older style but it works great for music and podcasts. If I remember the name of the store I will come back and post it.

Sansa Fuze is a super player- I'd go for the older model not the brand new ones.

I'm bumping this thread up to ask if any of you Sansa Clip or Fuze MP3 owners have used yours with a Mac? There seems to be some issue with that, and I am at a loss to get this figured out. I may just stop by Best Buy tomorrow and pick the brains of the techno college kids who work there! If you have experience with mp3 and Mac, I would love to hear from you.
