Default MOMS' BOOK THREAD: Week 10 of 2012

Its Sunday....a day of rest around here but also the day to start the new book thread.

I'm still reading Kay Warren's SAY YES TO GOD though I'm getting very close to finishing it. As I've said before, I really am getting a lot out of this book. It is perfect timing for me as we are in the application process to move to in inner-city ministry in our area. This would be to go deeper with a ministry we're already involved with on a regular basis as well as to transition and train for our life in Swaziland.

Now it is your turn. What are you reading this 10th week of 2012?

I've been slowly working my way through Kay Warren's book ever since you mentioned it a couple of weeks ago. We, too, are in a transition time - we're selling our house, selling most of our belongings, and heading back on the road full-time. We feel that God has "something" in store for us, and we just need to trust him and let go of our "comfortable life". I can't wait to be "gloriously ruined!"

    How neat!

    As far as my reading...

I'm still working on the same two books: Cooking with Fernet Branca (a funny antidote to "The Enchanted April" or any nice travel/cooking memoir type book -- just don't read it while eating because some of the included recipes are pretty revolting, lol) and Stone Junction (a cross between "Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas", "On the Road", and an R-rated Harry Potter).

    Finished two books this week.

The Devil in the White City - I'd give it 2 Stars (just okay, nothing to write home about) - the good thing is that I now know that I won't be spending any more of my $ or time on his other books, which previously, I had been wondering about.

An Unexpected Twist - free Kindle book - very short read - much like a short story. Andy Borowtiz is very funny. I love his stuff on my FB News Feed. Not for everyone, I must say. I'd give this one 3 Stars. I do look forward to reading other books by him.

Still reading You Are Not So Smart and listening to Quiet. Quiet also discusses highly sensitive/highly reactive people, the majority of whom are also introverts. The author, Susan Cain, did a TED talk called "The power of introverts," which you can watch here.

Just listened to the talk, thanks for posting. I am #25 for the book Quiet at my library, they only have two copies. Looking forward to reading it eventually.

I finished SAY YES TO GOD last night. It really was perfect timing for my life right now and I'm finding myself quoting from this one often.

I started CROSSED, the sequel to MATCHED by Ally Condie, but I was too confused about what was going on because its been a year since I read the first one. I have requested it from the library and will be going back and reading the last chapter before I pick up CROSSED again.

Still working on The Grapes of Wrath. This one might take awhile! Steinbeck's writing does not disappoint, but it is certainly not a breezy, quick read.
