Thread: What are you doing for next year?

This is one of my most favorite reoccurring threads! I start thinking about it in January and I like to firm it up by the end of February.

I have a MASTER PLAN in case I get hit by a garbage truck. I even left it in my underthings drawer last week when I flew to New York with my oldest dd for her Senior Trip. Thankfully, I am back and I never saw a garbage truck. I did hear them around 1am, tho...

So for next year - I will have one less student!!! She will have graduated!!
But I am happy for her... That means I will have grades: 11/9/6/4

Interesting to know there are other planners out there. Sometimes I feel it is an addiction...
I am [I]considering[I] the following for next year.

    Both Children
FIAR Vol. 1-3 (2nd grader's lessons will require more writing)
    Read aloud: Golden Children's Bible
Storytime for enjoyment: Mom and children's choices
Nature study/walk: use ideas from http://handbookofnaturestudy.blogspot.com/
Poetry daily: Favorite Poems Old and New (I am thinking of purchasing this book. If you have it, do you like it? Do you use it?) Otherwise, just check out various poetry books from the library.
    Learn a Hymn each quarter.
Learn about and listen to music by 2-3 composers. Probably 2.
    Sketch Tuesday as interested (http://harmonyartmom.blogspot.com/)

    Son - Kindergarten
Continue Explode the Code Primers, move into Phonics4Free.org when ready
    Math: FIAR, calendar and games

    Daughter - 2nd Grade
Read to Mom daily (variety of sources)
Math: continue Life of Fred Elementary series and Miquon Math
    Cursive: donnayoung.org
Child's History of the World (Hillyer) Still thinking about this. I think it would be good for Storytime 1-2 times per week just to offer an overview/background for history.
    Memorize scripture and poetry.

I appreciate all the Moms who take time to share their plans. This is a helpful thread!

Tentative Plans for new school year beginning June 2012:

    FAMILY TIME/ALL:
Who is God & Can I Really Know Him? (read-aloud for devotional)
    Nutrition 101: Choose life
Mystery of History (audio only) (mostly in car for travel days)
Piano practice (girls only, Michael starts lessons in fall)

    Katie & Michael together:
FIAR Vol 3/BYFIAR Unit Study (Will rotate/alternate - they are 8 & 10 years old)
Exploring Creation with Astronomy (only because the kids are begging dad to do this with them, as he's an astronomy buff & has passed that on to them)

    Elizabeth (7th grade):
    Teaching Textbooks 7
Life of Fred Fractions (finish, then begin next book)
    Studying God's Word E
    Spelling Power
    Winston Grammar (began last year)
    IEW SWI-B
    Apologia General Science
Lightning Literature 7th grade (finally decided it was time for something more traditional for lit for her)
Typing Instructor (definitely time to pick up this skill!)

    Katie (5th grade):
    Teaching Textbooks 6
Life of Fred Elementary (easy, but will be fun for her, don't think she's quite ready for Fractions)
    Studying God's Word D
    Language Lessons (finishing this up)
Spelling Power (began last year, but quit so she could finish up the Explode the Code series)
A Reason for Handwriting (may drop this, as she writes beautifully)
IEW SWI-B (will do along with sister, but modified for age)
Daily reading book of mom's choice

    Michael (3rd grade):
Teaching Textbooks 5 (he's advanced in math)
Life of Fred Elementary (easy for him as well, but for fun)
    Studying God's Word B/C
    Cursive Handwriting
Explode the Code (finishing the last 3 books)
Spectrum Spelling (only because he wanted this)
    Pathway Reader (read-aloud)
Daily reading book of his choice

I do want to say this. Elizabeth will be welcome to listen in on the FIAR/BYFIAR as there are about half the BYFIAR titles we did not get to with her, but we think it is time for her to move on to more structured studies (she wants this as well). I do believe even at her age, the BYFIAR would be meaty enough with just adding language arts, spelling & math, but unfortunately I also have to be realistic in that with our family's past history of not being very consistent with our FIAR/BYFIAR, I just don't trust it to be enough for her anymore the way that we tend to do it, if that makes any sense at all. Plus I really want her to get started on a more structured science, as we believe this to be very important, and she has expressed interest in this as well, and also more structured language arts. (We need this to help us learn to teach her as well.)
Tricia, blessed to be married to Matt (SAHD) for 15 years & mother of Elizabeth (3/00), Katie (11/01) and Michael (2/04)
Praying the Lord would help us to be the change we want to see reflected in our children.

    Our plans....
    Bug-8th grade
Public school he's really looking forward to it. And after praying about it, it's a good move for him. I always knew this day would come, in the beginning we always planned to send them to public school for high school, this is just a year earlier than I expected. I talked with the counselor at the school, and they will bump him up and let him do 9th grade honors math (he's well ahead in math). He is really excited about band all year long.

Doodle-4th grade- undecided. But probably public school as well

    Roo-2nd grade
    He WILL be homeschooled still.
Fiar vol 3 and other titles we've missed
Copy work from fiar titles, draw right now, and journal
I think growing with grammar and soaring with spelling
    Write shop
    Math with our wonderful tutor
Apologia zoology (low key, but for fun)
    Andrea-
Wife to my wonderful husband Ben, mom to 3 crazy boys- Bug- 14, Doodle- 10, and Roo-7.
