    Default Skylark fun!

We are rowing out last book of the year with my 10 and 12yos. We are doing Skylark. (We did Sarah Plain and Tall at the beginning of the year.) We are also doing this with our co-op group which adds another layer of fun too.

Some of our fun so far has included taking photos with some of our prized possessions. One son chose a Bible and the other his Spiderman pajamas. We learned about fire last week and did a lot of the lessons in the manual - from learning about different types of fire and fire extinguishers, to learning how to operate a fire extinguisher. It was a great time to purge our old ones and get some new ones. They LOVED doing this. We also built a fire and cooked on it (s'mores and hotdogs of course).

We've done some painting and color mixing. (I'm thankful for friends who are artistic so my kids have this exposure). I'm trying to incorporate more art into our day as they do love it and some days I'm just bad about doing it. As we enjoy the warm days, it just seems right to do art outside too.

Anyone else rowing Skylark now? Want to share some of the fun things you have done?

Sounds like fun, Leslie . We aren't doing Beyond right now, but was Skylark the one with the moonlight tea suggestion? I would like to do that.

Oh, I think you are right Cindy! We didn't do that the last time we rowed and that would be tons of fun to do this time! Thanks for the suggestion!

We've just started Skylark this week, and I have to admit that I never thought of using the fire extinguisher to teach fire safety! My little girls are such art lovers so we've had 2 days of art lessons so far this week. The little girls are rowing Duchess Bakes a Cake, but both Duchess and Skylark have lessons on color wheels. Yesterday we used new Prang watercolors and watercolor pencils to make all sorts of color wheels. Today my oldest dd used tube watercolors--new to us--to show the sun rising over water. I've only planned through Chapter 3 and cow anatomy (Monday), so I need to make some more lesson plans this weekend.

What did you do in your art lessons? I'd love to hear more. That is really a weak area for me. I'm glad I have FIAR to prompt me to do most of what does get done around here! : )

We built the weather station here today and had a rain shower tonight. Hopefully that will be fun to measure in the morning!
