Thread: and now she subtracts ...

Default and now she subtracts ...

Last week I shared how my 11 year old with dyscalculia had finally learned to add. Once she got it, she really got it. Within 3 days or so, she was able to add 3 and 4 digits numbers with carrying.

So this week, I decided we would venture into subtraction. And I'm so happy to say that she is able to subtract! So far, she is just subtracting with digits 10 and under ... no borrowing or anything like that. But she and I are both beyond thrilled with her instant success.

This morning she lay on my bed working math problems on her white board and announced in a very satisfied way: "I've got a really smart brain. I don't mean to brag about that, but I do!"

This child has always struggled with learning and when I first met her she had a very low opinion of her ability to learn. Now, 18 months later, to hear her say this ... well, let's just say the happy tears are flowing this morning!

So happy for you and her!

For my oldest ds, an empowered attitude towards math, and learning in general, has been one of the most important benefits of homeschooling.
