I think it was a combination of just finally clicking and an alternative method of teaching. I've been using the "touch points" theory of math with her because it is geared toward kids with dyscalculia. I've also included other right brain education techniques (use of color, stories to help her remember rules, etc)
Of course, at age 11, I think she is a bit more mature and so she's just getting it this time around. Last year at this time, she could hardly count to 20 without messing up. After a lot of frustration, I decided to take her off math. I told her that she couldn't even think about math for at least 6 months. Since February though, we've been slowly, slowly, slowly reintroducing her back to math. Last week, I decided it was time to try addition again and now she is able to adde and subtract!
