    Cool Discouraged...

Ok. So at the beginning of the year, I decided to eat more healthy. My husband and I went on a new eating plan which is kind-of-Paleo. We don't eat breads, whites or sugars. My husband has lost 38 pounds! He is looking good!

Me? ****NOT-A-POUND****. What's up with this? I am so sick of vegetables and chicken! What is the point? It has been five months!

What do you think? I'm ready to have a huge plate of spaghetti and a slice of garlic bread!

    Talk me down!

How do you feel not eating sugar, breads, and whites? Better than before? Don't eat the spaghetti and garlic bread if you feel better than before. I do not eat sugar and flour. The weight finally came off. Do you weigh and measure your food so you know exactly what you're eating?

I am guessing he had/has more weight to lose to begin with and men lose way faster than women do because of the amount of muscle they have compared to a woman.

I wonder too if you feel better? Also, sounds like you are eating way better, making better choices but do you think you are eating less calories than before? Are you burning more by exercising at all?

I certainly don't have the answers, just a couple thoughts. I sure hope you are at least feeling better and I am sorry the weight isn't flying off.

It's hard to say if I feel better than before. I have fibromyalgia, and am in pain most of the time. So, there is the whole tiredness issue and lack of sleep that adds to it.

I've been keeping the calories at about 1200 or below. I do exercise, but sometimes the pain is too much and I have to skip.

I'm starting to wonder if there is something medically going on; as in thyroid issues. I had it checked a couple of years ago, and it was ok. Can something like that change?

Wow, that is such a small amount to eat...WOW! I would check with your Dr. for sure. I can not believe you haven't been losing weight eating that low of calories. I am sorry Loralin. That is so frustrating.

Hmmmm, if you have been eating that way for six months, working out, and not losing weight, I'd wonder what is up. NEVER eat below 1200 calories though, that will send your body into starvation mode.

I know not everyone agrees with it, but I need whole grains to keep my energy level up. I lost a lot of weight while eating them, so they can't be all bad. Plus, I think if you are sick of eating the same foods, that can be draining. I'd add them back, maybe not white breads/pastas or refined sugars, but at least some whole grain pasta here and there!

Do you actually need to lose weight? From your avatar, you don't seem heavy. Maybe you're already at the right weight for your age and body type? How much do you want to lose?

Your sleep issues might be interfering with weight loss. According to most of the primal/paleo authors, adequate sleep plays a huge role in weight reduction.

I find it seriously annoying that men can lose weight so much easier. But for your dh anyway!

I agree with Lillian. Twelve hundred calories a day isn't enough. When is the last time you had a physical? Maybe the thyroid is a problem. Instead of flour, I eat plain oatmeal, shredded wheat cereal (plain), original Fiber One, Ezekiel bread, rice, quinoa, and potatoes (all sorts). But, I eat a certain portion size.

    You can sort this out.

You may need to up your calories. That low of calorie intake may have slowed your metabolism down.

Really concerned about you sweetie. 1200 calories is soooo little. I could not eat only 1200 calories for one day let alone 5 months.

Praying you get this figured out soon!
