Thread: How do I filter YouTube?

Default How do I filter YouTube?

I have an iPad. I am the only one who uses it. It is password protected and I'm the only one who knows the password.

Today, I wanted to watch a 'learn to play your autoharp' video on the iPad. I was watching one while holding the iPad, shifted the iPad in my hands and touched the screen as I did so. Suddenly I was in a screen with *numerous* p*rn thumbnails, and they were all very graphic.

There was no 'back' button for me to get out of it.

How do I filter YouTube on my iPad? YouTube is a great tool, but I'm sick of the inappropriate videos on the sidebar, and this experience today was the. last. straw.

    How do I filter it?

    Thanks.

Just a note about that "safety mode." We set up the safety mode in both YouTube and Google. Both of them worked for a day (or less) and then disappeared. We did this repeatedly. They disappeared repeatedly.

I truly think that Google and YouTube both make it extremely difficult to filter ... on purpose. Otherwise there would be an easy and obvious way to do this that worked. It all looks good when you read about the Safety option, but in reality it never "stuck" on our computer.

With all the trouble I'm having, and I am so not the only one, I'm beginning to believe that You Tube does not want us to be able to filter.

If they were serious about it being "family friendly," it would be easy to select filtering options.

Sorry I don't know how to help with the filtering situation.

Instead, I'll post my favorite autoharp vid:

It's not instructional, but I love it. Now I have to go play this song.

I don't really care who did it. I just want you to clean it up.

Oh, and if you want to Skype or otherwise communicate via webcam, I can show you what I know, though I am certainly not qualified to teach. But if you want to jam…

Even when you signed in to your YouTube account and permanently locked it at the bottom of the page? If so, that's really discouraging because that's what I'm doing this week. I didn't even know you could use a safety mode!

Yes. Even "permanently locked" on YouTube and Google both. The safety features never lasted for more than about a day. IF it works for you permanently, please tell what you did. My dh and I have tried it many times, and it won't stick.

We did find the "Google SafeSearch for Kids," which we now have on our toolbar for the kids to use. But the image search is lame (it doesn't show the images -- only text -- how useful is that? ) But regular Google is still there and unfiltered. I don't necessarily want a "kids" version of YouTube and Google, anyway. I just want a smut-free version, and I don't see why they make it so hard to get that.

    Exactly.

And on my YouTube page, I can't find any "contact us" button anywhere.
