Awesome ideas! I'm just starting B4FIAR with my just-turned-5 twins. Believe it or not, the 9 y/o twins (who waver back & forth between Beyond and FIAR) love doing stuff with them too from the B4 book...go figure!I'm really glad to find these extra ideas to amp things up. Makes it sort of a meet-in-the-middle process that all 4 kids can partake in to some extent! I printed these ideas off & will attempt to organize my thoughts and prepare some of these ideas ahead of time in manilla folders or bins so I can pull & go for the most part. Thanks!!!!
I need to visit the forums more! We haven't done as many of the B4 books as I had thought we would, mostly because my older two keep choosing books that are from FIAR. But we did row Corduroy awhile back. I see a lot of other people have done that one with olders. One activity that I had my 1st grader do was write a letter to a friend. She had to say something in the letter about why that person was a good friend. She ended up writing two letters, and it was really sweet to see what specific qualities she valued in her friendships. She also wrote a piano song with her piano teacher, basically setting the Proverbs 17:17 verse to music.
Now we are rowing Prayer for a Child to get in the spirit of the season! Today we picked up lots of children's prayer books from the library, and the older 2 will be choosing some simple prayers to memorize. We are learning about praying throughout our day and being thankful. I'm going to have my first grader write her own rhyming prayer. We also checked out books about angels, and I found a cute handprint angel craft that we will do at the end of the week.
I love this thread! I decided to get BFIAR too to use at times with my seven year old. I'm happy to see that others are using it with older kids with success.![]()

Me TOO! I'm glad this thread was started. I'm going to be using B4FIAR with my second dd next year. I did not find FIAR until my oldest dd was 5 and I went ahead and bought FIAR. She enjoyed FIAR when she was 5, but she got so much more out of FIAR when she was 6. She is now 7 and we are re-rowing some of the titles that she did when she was 5, and she is loving them even more! I said all that to say, I SSOOOO wish I would have used B4FIAR with my oldest. Now that I see some of you mommies using B4FIAR with older kiddos, I'm thinking I may let my oldest row some of the B4FIAR titles next year!
