Thread: First Language Lessons

    Default First Language Lessons

I plan on using FLL 3 for my 3rd and 4th grader this year. Has anyone on here used it? What else would I need to add to it to make a complete language arts curriculum? Spelling? I am also open to other LA suggestions. In the past, we have just done the Ambleside scope and sequence for LA. Which means pretty much lots of copywork and narration. Thanks for any info!

MichalL....I've never used FLL, but have looked at it several times. Writing With Ease goes along with FLL for the writing part of LA. As for spelling, I can't offer any advice, my dd is 7 and we haven't started spelling yet.

We use Sequential Spelling & are looking at adding First Language Lessons & Writing With Ease

I've been looking at this too and was really hoping someone had experience with it

I have only used it for a short time but Writing With Ease is suppose to be the writing component to go along with FLL. Sometimes it feels like they are redundant because Writing With Ease will talk a little about grammar but you can just adjust it to your needs. But I do know the author Susan Wise Bauer intends for First Language Lessons and Writing With Ease to go together. This would cover your writing and grammar. Than you would need spelling and if you want vocabulary.

The book The Well Trained Mind will give more insight into language arts and what would make it complete.

I am using FLL 1 for my daughter but we are only half way through it. I don't know about level 3 but level 1 does not include spelling. We both really like it. It is short and done orally mostly. There are also a variety of things that we do. Picture study is included too which is nice. Sorry I can't help more with level 3.

I have used FLL and WWE with my daughters up to the end of level 2. They do coincide well together, and I think the repetition of grammar is intentional and beneficial for the most part.

My oldest daughter will be going into grade 4 and I plan to use Spelling Wisdom which is available through the simplycharlotte.com website.
